A list of the Jodel DR.100 series aircraft

- Second Edition, November 2000 -

Please be patient ... Due to the size of the table contained on this page (approx. 750 rows), it may take a while to load. Formatting of the table takes quite long with Netscape but works rather fast with Microsoft Internet Explorer :-(

I have made an attempt to find information on all the Jodel DR.100 series aircraft ever built. This information was collected from a variety of sources and its accuracy cannot always be verified. Underlined registration numbers link to photos of the aircraft if available. If the name of the owner is underlined, this indicates that the owner can be reached by e-mail. The remarks column contains additional information about the specific aircraft, with sources for the information presented given as link if possible. If there is a number in parantheses behind a registration number, the number indicates that this registration was issued more than once. This scheme follows the practice in Pascal Brugiers' great International Aircraft Register, one of the major sources for the information presented below.

If you would like to contribute comments or corrections, I would be happy to hear them - just send me an e-mail. I would also be very happy to hear from present and past owners of DR.100 series aircraft - perhaps even get photos from different years and interesting tidbits of information.

Current DR.100 series aircraft owners -- please let me know if you're flying or restoring and send me photos if you have them. If you have photos but no possibility to scan them yourself, I can do this for you. All photos are to be sent to the following address

Lutz Gebhardt
Rosenstrasse 8
D-66265 Heusweiler
Germany

and will be treated with the utmost care and promptly returned to the sender.
Thank you for your help!

- Lutz Gebhardt

A note regarding the second edition of this list (07 Nov 2000): I started the first edition of this list in early 2000 mainly based on Pascal Brugiers listings as mentioned above. From there on, I tried to find more information about individual aircraft from other internet sources (registration lists for countries not found in Brugier's files) and also printed publications. After the list went online in May 2000, information from individuals began to come in, either with information about their own aircraft or with information about aircraft they had seen or photographed at an airport or during a fly-in - Many thanks to all contributors. That way, the list continued to improve slowly.

Then in late October 2000, an unexpected development started: I received tips on further registration lists from Pete Hughes (Brugier's German Register Files and David Lenton's Almost Complete German Register) and John Walton (David Lenton's Almost Complete German Register) independently on the same day. For the first time now I had access to information which included German registrations. Pete also send very detailed information about some aircraft no longer on the UK register (including reason and location of the accident, which is most of the time why the aircraft is no longer active), the most detailed information to date. A day after that, David Wise offered to send me his DR.100 series production list (which I gladly accepted, thanks David!). Then finally in early November, Robin Sauvary sent a list which he had compiled together with his friend David Wise some years ago.

Now I had some work to do: Integrate the information of three different lists (Pascal Brugier(PB), David Lenton (DL), David Wise (DW)) into my own list. Now that this is mostly done, almost all aircraft have been traced down. This doesn't mean that all are current (that is where YOU could help!), but at least registration, serial number and last known status are now on hand for most of the 634 production aircraft and a few dozen homebuilt aircraft. Now the work goes more in the direction of getting current information and a photo about each aircraft (where still possible), i. e. home base and owner. For destroyed/scrapped aircraft, reason for the accident and its location would be interesting. So again - if you can add any detail at all to any of the aircraft listed here - please send me an e-mail!

P.S.: All pictures linked to in the following table were taken from other websites, submitted by Jodel-owners, taken by myself or in rare occasions scanned from magazines. Credit is always given if the photographer is known. If you are the copyright holder of one of the pictures and want me to give credit to you or remove the picture, please e-mail me.

List History

What's new in the list below? Here is the chronology!

New 19 July 2000 - Individual Aircraft Pages

Since starting the list below in early 2000, I have received stories and/or multiple pictures for a few aircraft in the list. Because it is difficult to accommodate that much information in a single table row, I have decided to create individual pages for aircraft for which there is a lot of interesting information and/or pictures available. These pages are accessible through a link to the serial number in the following table, i.e. if the serial number in the first column is underlined, a seperate page for that aircraft is available. Additionally, all aircraft with their own page are listed on the Individual Aircraft Pages List.

If you want such a page for your aircraft and have the necessary information available, just drop me a note and we will work something out.

Aircraft Status - Color Coding of Table Rows

Note: The year and month in the table indicates the date of the first registration of the aircraft, which is in many cases probably different from the date of first flight, especially for exported aircraft (29 Jan 2002).

Still with its original Continental C-90-14F engine, original instrument panel, seats etc. The owner has observed an interesting difference between the DR.100A and later DR.1050/1051 models: "With my C-90 engine and an EVRA propeller, I cruise at about 110-115 kt at 2200 rpm (18 liters/hour), or 100 kt at 2000 rpm (15 liters/hour). This is quite better than the DR1050 Ambassadeur, which reaches 100 kt with about 18-19 liters/hour, most of the time...(I don't talk about the Sicile Record or the Excellence, which have a different "empennage"...). The difference, I think, comes from the wing, which is less "twisted" on the DR100A... I have no "official" evidence of this, but you just need to look and compare, I have already had the occasion to do so: the difference is rather striking! One of the numerous little details in the story of the DR100 series!" Info supplied 13 June 2000 by Bruno Spagnoli. From part II of Frank Rogers' article 'The Jodel Story': A similar DR.1051, ZK-JOD arrived in New Zealand in 1980 having been flown out by Dr. Chris Goy and his wife from Switzerland and registered HB-EBX. The author met Chris at the National Fly-in at Te Kowhai near Hamilton. This Jodel has an interesting past having fossicked around the Sahara in the general direction of Timbuktu in her younger days as well as visiting the Greek Islands, Kuwait and even Baghdad long before we heard of 'Stormin Norman'."

Laurent Geneux and Luc Job (- 2002)
Môtiers (LSTO), Switzerland (since ??) New information 5 July 2000 from Hans Teijgeler: "HB-EBM is flying again since 1995 or 1996. The co-owner Luc Job, a technical counselor for the Swiss Homebuilders' Association (RSA Suisse) fitted a three blade constant speed prop, for which he had to relocate the battery and do the certification work. He is very pleased with the aircraft and its Potez engine. The CS prop should make it a real performer. The aircraft has attended Cranfield a couple of years ago (I believe 1997)." Ownership of Laurent Geneux and Luc Job confirmed from a Swiss Register Document via tip from Hans Teijgeler on 19 Mar 2001. (29 Dec 2007: Original document no longer available, a copy of this Swiss register status dated March 2001 can now be found here.)
New information 29 Dec 2007 from Peter Kupferschmied: The only owner over a couple of years until 2006 was Laurent Geneux, and Peter became co-proprietor in July 2006. The aircraft is based with another 4 Jodels at Môtiers in Switzerland (LSTO), and is currently undergoing an instrument panel and avionics upgrade. Peter also sent me the first photos of this aircraft: front view, cockpit, in flight. Ownership of Laurent Geneux and Peter Kupferschmied confirmed from the Swiss FOCA Register.

Abbotsley Airfield, UK ex F-BLZQ. The incident whose results can be seen in the picture happened with a Potez engine: "The landing in the field happened after in-flight spark plug separation. The cylinder head thread for one of the spark plugs stripped out after overtightening. Although we had a spare engine, all the heads had the same problem - presumably this is common. So we had a helicoil put in as a repair but this failed while I was flying it causing the force landing. In fact, little real damage was done and she was up again within a couple of weeks."
From Dave Thomas by e-mail on 17 September 2000: "Accident [with G-AYLF s/n 547] this week at Fenland Airfield, Lincs, UK. Undercarriage bent, possibly some damage to wing, but spar looks OK. Damage to rear port fuselage longeron behind wing, along with bottom and port ply covering. Rear cowl broke, along with air intake spider, sump, air intake etc. Prop broke, engine shock loaded. We await to see if its rebuilt."

From Dave Thomas by e-mail on 26 February 2001: "Aircraft being rebuilt. Currently at Skycraft workshops for wing spar repair and recover and fuselage repair. Airframe repairs expected to be completed within the next few weeks. Aircraft has new syndicate with new owners."

The Swiss AAIB has issued a preliminary report (PDF) about this accident.

732 F-PSEB DR.1054 09/1999 Richard Marcone Richard Marcone Grenoble Le Versoud (LFLG) DW: Current. Destroyed in a takeoff accident on 18 Jul 2000 at Grenoble Le Versoud. See French Air Accident Investigation Board (BEA) bulletin. Engine was a Lycoming O-320-H2AD. 10 Sep 2001: More info from a webpage by Hans Teijgeler: F-PSEB is a highly modified DR.1050, features 160 hp Lycoming O-320 H2AD from a Cessna 172 with prop extension, custom built carbonfiber engine cowlings, forward-hinged DR400 canopy which is held open by two gas struts, flaps instead of airbrakes and a modified Socata TB20 undercarriage. Cruise at 2200 RPM saw a 220 km/h speed, whereas Vne could be reached in level flight at 2750 rpm (without wheelpants). The accident occurred due to taking off on the rear tank, climbing out with a steep climb gradient, subsequent engine fuel starvation, and a resulting stall/spin. Richard was able to recover, but didn't quite make it back to the runway without engine power. The landing in a corn field damaged the aircraft considerably. Currently, the aircraft is being rebuilt with a DR.400-style swept tail and a completely new wing. For more details and photos see Hans' webpage about the aircraft.
